MIES (Switzerland) - The countdown to Paris 2024 has begun and the road map to reach next year's Olympic Games will come into sharper focus with the draw for the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2024.

As determined by the FIBA Central Board decision on September 9, the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be held from February 8 to 11 next year in four cities, namely - Antwerp, Belgium; Belem, Brazil; Sopron, Hungary; and a city to be confirmed in China.

The draw will take place on October 5 at 19:30 CET in Sopron as 16 nations prepare to compete in four groups of four. There are 10 Olympic tickets available since France are already assured of their spot as the Olympic hosts and USA as the last FIBA Women’s World Champions in 2022.

Both have a guaranteed spot in Paris but will take part in the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

Participating nations in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments are qualified through the Continental Cups 2023 as per region.

However, in the Americas region, some teams must also navigate a FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament which will be played during November 2023.

This will feature Canada, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Venezuela. All countries will play each other in one group in a round-robin format with the two highest-placed teams moving to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The sixteen qualified teams will be divided into four groups of four at the draw. The teams in the same group will play each other in a round-robin format. The top three teams of each group will earn a ticket to Paris 2024.

For the groups with France and USA, only the top two remaining teams will qualify for the Olympic Games.
