Thon Maker crowned as first-ever FIBA WASL MVP

DOHA (Qatar) - Thon Maker etched his name in the FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) history books after being crowned its first-ever Most Valuable Player.

The seasoned forward earned the honors after helping Al Riyadi clinch the 2024 WASL championship at the expense of rivals Sagesse SC, 100-90, in the Final that went into overtime on Saturday, June 1, at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall in the Qatari capital.

Maker finished with monster numbers of 35 points on a 50-percent clip from the field, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks as he was determined to exorcise the ghost of the past.

The former NBA player fell just short of winning the title in the inaugural Final 8 last season after his Kuwait Club bowed to Manama, 67-59, in a thrilling finale in Dubai, UAE.

Maker finished the tournament with per-game averages of 18.8 points on 50.4-percent shooting from the field, 8.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 3.2 blocks on 23.2 efficiency.
