The City of Manila is the capital of the Philippines and its second-most populated city, with close to two million inhabitants. Basketball is Manila and the Philippines' favorite sport. Most local villages have basketball courts with court markings drawn on the streets, with inter-village leagues held every summer, from April to May.
With an impressive land area of over 64,000 square meters, the Mall of Asia Arena is a world-class facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Its eye-shaped exterior represents what spectators will experience at every event at the venue, a “feast for the eye.”
The Mall of Asia Arena was opened in 2012 and is a flexible venue that can adapt to all sorts of events. Its massive all-glass facade can accommodate a seating capacity of 15,000 for basketball games. This five-level ultramodern events venue also boasts world-class facilities.
The Arena serves as one of the playing venues of the local basketball leagues and associations in the country. It also served as the main venue for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and the final game between host Philippines and Iran was played in front of a 19,989 attendance. The NBA chose this venue to play their first preseason game in Southeast Asia in October 2013, when Houston took on Indiana.
The SM Mall of Asia Arena has accessible parking areas around its vicinity. Apart from the Mall of Asia Parking Facility (South Wing), the neighboring Mall of Asia Arena Annex (MAAX) building can accommodate up to 1,400 parking slots. Also, with the opening of the new NU Mall of Asia (NUMA) Building, another 720 parking slots are added for your convenience.
